Walt Bailey, a former Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) employee took on this trail as a project and he with some aid from volunteers completed this trail in 1991.  Unfortunately, as of July 2004, no one has taken the time or found the money to put a proper plaque at the trailhead recognizing his hard work and dedication.

The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) set aside this portion of ancient forest as the Mt. Pilchuck Natural Resource Conservation Area under the Special Lands Protection Project.

This 3.5 mile trail begins at 3000 feet above sea level and climbs up 1200 feet to 4200 feet in its length.  Along the trail you will find Western Hemlock and Pacific Silver-Fir in this old growth forest.

A Northwest Forest Pass is required for each vehicle parked at the trailhead.
