The 4.1 mile long Lake Ann Trail begins at 4,700 feet in elevation Austin Pass.  The trail enters the Mt. Baker Wilderness Area and winds down switchbacks to the headwaters of the Swift Creek Drainage.

In 2.5 miles you pass the unsigned junction with the Swift Creek Trail #607 on the right.  The trail winds through both meadows and wooded areas.  Mt. Baker comes into view as the trail climbs out of the Swift Creak Drainage.

The trail reaches a saddle above Lake Ann and when you continue on down toward the lake you encounter a junction.  The trail to the left goes to the Fisher Chimney route to Mt. Shuksan and the trail to the right leads to campsites along the lake.

At Lake Ann you get a wonderful close up view of Mt. Shuksan and its Curtis Glacier.  If you should be luck enough to hear a thunderous roar it will mean that part of the face of the glacier has broken off and is falling down the rock face of the mountain.

Lake Ann often remains frozen into late summer and often there is dangerous snow on or above the trail so hike with caution.  The crossings of Swift Creek can be very dangerous during periods of high snow run off.

If entering the North Cascades National Park Service Complex overnight, a free backcountry permit is required.

Fires are prohibited; campers must use backcountry stoves for cooking. In keeping with wilderness regulations, party size is limited to 12.

A Northwest Forest Pass is required for each vehicle parked at the trailhead.
