The Heliotrope Ridge trail is
very busy because it is the main access to The trail starts by crossing
Grouse Creek over a bridge and then enters the old growth forest. As you climb steadily higher the trees thin
and the huckleberries increase. Just
before you leave the treeline you will encounter
the site of the old Kulshan Cabin where early climbers
used to spend the night. Above treeline the vegetation changes drastically and About 2.0 miles up the trail you
will encounter a fork in the trail.
The left fork will take you east to the lateral moraine deposited by
the receding glaciers. From the overlook
